WORKING WITH THE COMMUNITY
We are really thankful to John McGrath from the National Theatre of Wales for his support during our run of Guys and Dolls. You can see the photographs of him working with us at a rehearsal by clicking on the link below.

In 2010, members of our Society were involved in a performance of a community play/musical called NEW i.D. in the National Eisteddfod 2010. We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this fantastic production that joined so many different people of different ages. It was a pleasure to work alongside other groups and to learn from eachother.
NEW.i.D’ was a community play with a difference. The story was inspired by a 6 months research period, called ‘Flash’, collecting stories from the Heads of the Valleys area (Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Torfaen and Merthyr). 1,400 people and 70 groups from the area contributed through poetry, art, performances, music, photography and dance. These pieces have been the inspiration to the ‘NEW.i.D’ creative team to create a completely different community play.
Words from the poetry formed the words for the songs and recurring themes and ideas have created the story. Also, the groups who performed and sang with ‘Flash' are also appearing in the ‘NEW.i.D’ production. It was truly by the community for the community.
NEW.i.D bilingual community play was a one off performance at the Pink Pavilion on The Works site, Ebbw Vale on the 29th of July, 2010. The name can be pronounced 'newid' which means 'change' in Welsh, or pronounced as New ID. The show was organised by Head for Arts and had the support of the BBC and the National Eisteddfod. 2,000 people of all ages and abilities from the Heads of the Valleys area contributed to the play.
